Search Engine Optimisation - Netbyte’s View
We believe that to rank well in search engines; your site needs two key things:
- Good, quality code
- Good, quality content
You can spend thousands and thousands of dollars on search optimisation services. But unless your website makes money by the volume of traffic it receives, you are better off going for quality of user audience rather than quantity; where the success of your website is not measured by the number of visits it receives each month, but by how many visits turn into potential leads.
What would be the point of receiving 10,000 visits a month to your website if not one of them contacted you for further information?
So what we’re saying is this:
- Yes, appearing in search engines is important
- Yes, you need to ensure that your marketing budget allows for search engine registration/positioning services (should be done at least twice a year);
- But, once you get people to your site, the website must encourage the user to contact you for more information or buy something, or visit one of your stores etc etc.
SEO companies can’t guarantee you an increase in leads or sales. All they can do is get more traffic to your doorstep – you then need to invite the people in.
We’ll be talking about 'what makes a good website' in our next issue of Signal.
